What is BI Project Management?

By definition, a project is a temporary endeavour undertaken to create a unique product, service or result. By temporary, it means a project has a defined beginning and end in time, and therefore defined scope and resources; by unique, it is not a routine operation, but specific set of operations designed to accomplish a singular goal. BI Project Management is the set of specific practices of initiating, planning, executing, controlling, and closing projects in the Business Intelligence and Data Management field.

From the experience we have gained over the last decades in delivering BI projects, we have noticed that although each project is unique all BI projects share similar characteristics. BI implementations are both dynamic and complex: businesses face constantly evolving requirements and increasing demands, as well as tight budgets and ever-reducing availability of business resources. BI solutions are also extremely flexible with large margin for interpretation.
